What poped int your mind !! Most of you would have seen the red background & the famous yellow arches !!! Our mind thinks with pictures……Not words !!! Now don’t think of a white elephant…………. Did a White elephant pop into your mind’s eye !! If you saw the word … Don’t fret there is still hope for you LOL !!

Why Do I Need to Brand ?

The consumer (Your Customers) are bombarded with brands in every possible social interaction their is…. Nothing is sacred !!! Do an experiment…

3. Choice of Music player
4. TV
5. White goods
6. Brown Goods
7. Pen
8. Golf or other sporting equipment
9. Sports Shoes
10. Favorite T-shirts / Trackpants
11. Preferred softdrink

Do you have a brand preference ? It says a lot about you ?  Companies which are major household names know this and market their wares to the unsuspecting consumers daily !!  There is nothing wrong with this ? The smart marketers find a campaign which their target demographic can relate to. Targeted marketing of trusted brands leads to increased sales. Major electronic companies use facebook and the like to offer cheaper products to students knowing full well that they are investing in their future – These students are the leaders of tomorrow and they will be the future consumers of their big ticket items…Get brand loyalty via social media and keep customers for life

Interesting Fact : Why did MacDonald’s use Yellow & Red in their branding. Research shows that yellow makes you hungry & Red Draws you towards it – Attraction Marketing…LOL !!

Industries have spent millions in brand research to ensure their long term success. When I was consulting in the relocation’s industry a while back, we conducted a study to find the buying habbits of women when it came to choosing a preferred removalist. The main reasons were

1. Customer Service to Date
2. Name of Company (If it was a company named after an  animal or a flower our female demographic tendered to favour these companies

Obviously this is not true in all industries, but the niche we were targeting wasn’t broad and these were the results.

Why Do I Need To build A Brand ?

By reading thusfar you should be appreciating the importance of a brand.

Interesting Fact : 50 million people eat MacDonald’s everyday. 1 in 4 customers say yes  to Would you like fries with that ?

Branding ensures you stand out from the crowd and clearly identifies your work. Your subscribers  & followers will instantly recognise your work. Your goal is to build a website and drive as many qualified  people to it as you possibly can.  This would grow your site. Branding should transcend to allyour webs space. It should be instanly recognizeable in the following areas

1. Email Accounts
2. Blogs
3. Twitter
4. Myspace
5. Facebook
6. Feedreaders for sites in your niche
7. Monitoring the web for any publicity for your branding
8. Organization of your virtual office

Efficiency reduces Down Time

As with everything in life – reduce the clutter & you will become more productive. As such you should have as few online platforms to conduct your online business. You see if you use a different service for your different tasks,  the time taken to log in & out of these on a daily basis adds to considerable downtime which in fact will eat into your bottom line. For example how many times have you checked you email & started reading a totally irrelevant communication which cost you 20 minutes of productive time. Add 20 minutes to all the services you use and that is a great chuck of your working day gone.

Ok You Get the importance of Branding your Identity online.

Two of the services I use to de-clutter my online experience is NETVIBES & Wordpress. Netvibes dashboard has all my important daily tasks in one central place.  It has a to-do list which ensures I don’t get distracted and concentrate on the daily task on hand. I have used a few Blogging services such as Joomla, Blooger & Wordpress amongst others. Setting these up is not difficult, however needs to be done at the begining to make your journey simpler and more enjoyable.  As it will be a easy step by step guide, I will dedicate the next post to Netvibes & Wordpress. I always come back to Wordpress because of the ease of use and they have an app plugin for almost everything.
